Peanut Proud is on its way! The cooperative efforts of the community and the peanut industry is coming together again this year for another great day of spirited activities, entertainment and fun on Court Square.
Award-winning country singer Mark Wills will be the marque entertainment at the sixth annual Peanut Proud year’s festival Saturday, March 22.
Mark Wills is a multi-platinum selling country music star with eight top 10 hits, including “19 Something,” “Wish You Were Here” and “Don’t Laugh At Me;” all of which received nominations for Single, Song and Video of the Year by the Country Music Association.
Wills won the Academy of Country Music’s award for Top New Male Vocalist in 1998. In 2002, “19 Something” spent six consecutive weeks at No. 1, was Billboard’s top country hit of the year and was the second most played song of the decade in 2009.
His newest collection of recordings are on the CD titled “Looking for America,” an album which clearly raises the flag to demonstrate the responsibility he feels to Americans, specifically our military, with the title cut and “Crazy Being Home.”
Wills has made seven trips to entertain our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.
Since 2007, Mark has been the spokesperson for the Children’s Miracle Network.
The day will be filled with additional great musical entertainment by the Bo Henry Band, Claude Bell and the Firedogs and the Atlanta Allstars Band which will provide music for the street dance.
It will be a day full of activities starting with the 5K and Fun Run that morning for runners who are “nuts about running” and continuing through the street dance that evening for those “nuts about dancing.”
There will be plenty of kids activities, including an obstacle course. And Court Square will be lined with vendors selling food, candies and arts and crafts. And everyone always looks forward to the Peanut Proud parade.
Peanut Proud activities begin March 1 with the annual Peanut Proud Poker Run, a growing favorite charitable ride favorite among bikers.
The Peanut Proud Pageant will be held Sunday, March 9 at Mangham Auditorium. The annual pageant showcases Southwest Georgia’s beautiful girls and young ladies as part of the Peanut Proud festivities.
The fifth annual Farmer Appreciation Breakfast will Friday, March 9 sponsored by Peanut Proud and the Early County Extension office. Everyone is reminded to nominate their favorite farmer for the “Agricultural Producer of the Year” award which will be presented at the breakfast.
